Drawing on both their native heritage and their inherent respect for "Mother Earth" Spirit Point has been created to exist totally off grid, sustaining its heart beat instead from a combination of Solar, Wind Power and a Diesel Generator with a little help from propane to run the stoves and heating system.
One of the largest buildings on the property is reserved for our diesel, wind and solar equipment.
Seeing that Spirit Point exists completely off the grid we have invested a considerable amount of time and effort into establishing a state of the art off grid experience we look forward to sharing with all who pass through our gates. We began with an array of twelve 150 watt solar panels, which can manually track the sun throughout various times of the day. Realizing the size of our facility and the limitations of solar power during the winter months in our region we supplemented the system with a 3000 watt wind turbine which provides a constant trickle charge when there is no sun and vice versa. The heartbeat of Spirit Point remains a virtually silent 4cylinder 15,000 watt Lister Petter diesel generator. Together with a 48 volt gel cell battery bank we are able to invert and store the energy coming in from the solar and wind. In the event that either of these two methods can’t produce enough power our diesel will automatically start and sufficiently charge the battery bank, only to shut off again automatically when the correct charge is obtained. We constantly continue to play with alternatives for conserving and producing power, which lends to the appeal of Spirit Point and our goal of leaving the smallest possible footprint in a world where excess consumption is taking its toll.
In keeping with our aim for the preservation of "Mother Earth" our bathrooms are equipped with dispensable bio-degradable soap and shampoo and all cleaning products are also environmentally friendly. We ask that during your stay with us you join our plight by performing just a few simple tasks such as; using our bio-degradable products, turning off light switches when a room is not in use, and refraining from over using high volumes of power by devices such as curling irons or hair dryers, etc.
While we are certainly not naive enough to believe that we alone can reverse the damage to our atmosphere that has already been generated by mans desires for modern living; we do strongly believe that as a collective body we can help prevent continued or future damages.
